"Melba" is a big, 15.2 hand, gentle giant! This gal has recently become Riley's personal
riding horse. Of course he does still allow his mom to ride her once in awhile, sometimes
even without him! Melba has almost become a bridle horse, one of the highest honors on
a ranch. She has done it all on our ranch, drag calves to the fire for branding, doctored
sick cattle, gathered cattle, checked fence and water holes, ranch roping, ponied colts,
been used to start colts in the round pen, pack horse in the Blue Mountains, broodmare,
and most important, a trustworthy mount for Riley! Melba has raised two very nice foals
for us that already have her gentle quiet disposition, D's Hot Ta Molli and J.D.
Unfortunatley due to unknown circumstances, Melba was never registered. But, we know
her bloodlines and that's good enough for us since we have no plans to sell any of her
foals. Check out her bloodlines below, it's a real shame she was never registered, she
would probably be almost 100% Foundation.

Melba with her little buckaroo Riley and his dad on Big Buck, getting ready to do some Team Roping.
Riley is really enjoying his rides on Melba. We hope they have many good miles together!
Riley and Melba went to the fair
this year. They participated in the
leadline class. Riley was sure to
smile really good for the judge and
did a great job when the judge
asked him to back his horse up.
They won a trophy which Riley is
VERY proud of.
After he was done in the show
ring, Riley wanted to show off his
"pony". He led her around for
quite awhile until we finally
convinced him that she was
getting tired.
After they had a quick snack, he
finally decided it was time to give
Melba a break back at the trailer.
It was a fun day and he will
probably show again next year!
For anyone wondering why
Melba is wearing a tiny bosal tied
to her forelock in these pictures,
here is the explanation. It is
actually called a bosalito and it is
to honor Melba as a bridle
horse. She is one of the good
ones and we love to honor her in
this small way.
Doesn't this smile just say it all about Riley and Melba?
