Diamond D Quarter Horses
2008 Clinics
This will be a great clinic for anyone who is wanting to train their own horse. Dusty
will start you from the ground up with your colt showing you how to start your colt in
a gentle way. You will start with ground work and progress on to the first saddling
and first ride. With safety for the rider and horse being put first, Dusty will not allow
you to move on until he feels that you are both ready. Dusty would like to have
participants use a rope halter and nightlatch, but it is not required. These are
available at the ranch for purchase.
This clinic will be held at our ranch. There is camping available at our ranch or
lodging is available in Davenport and Wilbur for those of you who are not local. We
plan on having lunch available at the ranch all weekend.
Colt Starting Clinic $250.00/all three days, or $100/day
Ranch roping is a great way to learn the basics of roping. It is not to be confused with the fast paced sport
of Team Roping. Ranch roping is slow paced and used for a variety of ranch uses including branding,
doctoring sick cattle, and roping horses. There are several different shots that will be taught. You will
learn when to use the different shots depending on your position to the cattle.  You will start out on the
ground learning roping basics and the different loops. Once you are good at the loops roping the dummy
from the ground, you will progress on to your horse. Once your horse is used to the ropes you will start
roping the dummy from horseback. If you and your horse are both doing well with the dummy and it is
determined that you can safely move on you may progress on to live cattle. If you don't have your own
rope you can either borrow one of ours or purchase on at the ranch.
Ranch Roping Clinic

So, you've always wanted to be a cowboy huh? Well, here's your chance! This camp is limited to 5
participants. We have horses available to rent for 2 people. Everyone else will need to bring their own horse.
Our horses are available on a first come first serve basis. This camp will let you live the life of a working
cowboy or cowgirl for the weekend. Never rode a horse before? No problem! The first day will be learning
how to ride and work with your horse. For the more advanced riders, don't worry we will have something for
you too! There will be all sorts of ranch "tasks" that we will teach you how to do including, fence checking and
mending, cattle gathering and moving the herd, roping and more. This isn't a four star resort though! You will
be staying in a wall tent, with outside bathroom accommodations, and all meals provided by the ranch. Come
join us on the weekend of the National Day of The Cowboy!!! Cowboy Camp fee $800
